what is the purpose of an external usb hard drive and how do I retrieve stored data from it?
I kept getting an error message saying ‘low in disk space’ so I got an external usb hard drive with 500gb storage. Should I have to retrieve data from there, then how do I do it. Please, I’m so very unsavvy when it comes to computers so if anyone is kind enough to answer, please put it in simple terms. Thank you.
It is just like a normal USB. You plug it in the USB port. But, It will come under "Hard drives", not "Removable disks". You then copy and paste your files, just like a usb, and you will be able to access it just the same.
Hope I helped!

You access it in the same way as your internal hard drive.

If you choose to store something on it, all you must do to view or use it is to click on your "my computer" shortcut, and then click on the icon of your new hard drive.
If you dont have a shortcut to "my computer" on your desktop, you can reach it by clicking on the "start" button, or by right clicking the "start" button and clicking "explore".

I have a Western Digital external drive. It came with software to synchronize files with my regular hard drive.

once external hard drive is plugen in and turned on….
it will show up as a new drive in "My Computer",
you might have to restart your pc.
then you can add / remove / copy /paste files as normal….
your hard drive "C", the main hard drive needs to have at least 25% free space on it…so move any unneccessary data from C to new drive D or E.
also to keep drive working smoothly ….you need to "Defragment ", them once a month…..
this is like having a personal secretary who organises all the files together tidyily for you..
you can keep main folders like photos / misc etc on second drive….then look at the icon of the file…
with mouse right click…/ select/ send to/….desktop create shortcut…
this will give you a shortcut on your main screen to any particular file without having to go through MY Computer al the time.

download "AUSLOGIC DEFRAG"…simple to use. run / install program.
open.start { have a cup of tea} when finished . close program . done.
best wishes.
