Can I share an external USB hard drive with a Wii and a PRV?

I have a Wii and want to run all my backup games from a USB hard drive. This can be done – no problem. I am going to buy a Personal Video Recorder – the type that saves programmes to an external USB hard drive. Rather than buy two external USB hard drives, can I just use the one for the same jobs?

NINTENDO CAME OUT WITH A NEW UPDATE! DO NOT DO!.

Their new update does not allow you to edit the bios files of the wii. Why you might be able to get the files from it, you can’t put it back in. Trust me I tried ISO’s etc. If you didn’t get the new update than don’t update and do what you plan to do. If you have the newest update, the backup f your games will not work. All you need to know about it. Update= no backup or configuration= X_X

HOMEBREWING WILL NOT WORK OR ANY TORRENTS DUE TO NEW UPDATE!

The answer to your question though is yes, but it would be a waste of money due to what I mentioned above.
