please suggest : i should buy an external hard disk or internal?

my current hard disk is a seagate 40 gb.i wanna have one more hard disk but cant make out whether i should have external(usb connected) or internal.
if i buy an external hard disk then i have to install my os on 40 gb hard disk.it is 8 years old so not sure whether it will run 5 more years.
so what do you suggest -buying a usb hard diak or a sata that fits the cabinet.

Taken account your situation, it would probably be better to buy an internal hard disk. You could then buy a cover so that you can use your 40gb internal hard drive as an external drive for extra space if you like.

It really depends on what you plan on doing. If you travel, hang out with friends, use other computers/only have a Desktop and no laptop external is a nice way to go because you will be able to access all your files. But for a cheap fast data access internal is a much better idea and just get a 4gb flash drive for those special occasions
40gb is pretty low you can usually get a very cheap internal but it really does depend on your style and situation

Internal hard drives are much faster than external ones so only buy an external hard drive if you intend to carry it around.

This is a good hard drive for under £50 including postage:

It’s fast and very quiet but make sure you’ve got the right connectors on your motherboard, it’s a SATA hard drive (tiny cables) but if your computer is old it might only have the older style ATA (also called PATA) which uses ribbon cables.

There’s also this 640GB Hitachi drive for only £5 more:

£48 for a decent 640GB hard drive, it makes you wonder how PC World get away with selling 120GB drives for the same price.
