if i save the program files folder to an external hdd when i upgrade to vista ultimate will the programs work?
im intending to upgrade to vista ultimate but have many downloaded torrent programs.
if i save the program files folder to an external hdd and when im finished replace the folder will my programs work. if not does anyone have any ideas to what i could do
further to what m says it definately won’t work
In Windows (98, Server, XP, Vista) when a program is installed it adds files to various places on the hard drive (often in the Windows directory) registers dll’s and the like and other things that can’t be reproduced by simply copying the directory back again.
You’ll have to do it the hard way and re-install all your programs again after the re-install.
I always create a folder called ‘rebuild’ and keep the original install files in there for any good stuff that I download. Makes it easy to re-install after a rebuild as all the programs are in one place (also easier to back up)
i don’t think that will work but if you still have the installer file the one you download you could move that to the drive and reinstall it on the new vista ultimate.
