i have 1 external hard disk stating 2.5" so is the internal hard disk for a computer of the same size can they be swopped

Well it depend:

1- The 2.5" external hard drive that you have is for laptop, the size for a hard drive computer is 3.5"

2- There are 2 type of hard drive, SATA and IDE and the connectors are different.

You will have to verify what type of equipment you have.

Yes, but 2.5" is the size used in laptop computers. 3.5" is the size used in a desk top.

An external 2.5 hard drive is equal to the type used in laptop computers.

If you can remove the hard drive from the hard drive casing, then yes if you have the correct connector (IDE or SATA) on your motherboard the external hard drive could be put in as an internal hard drive (if the motherboard and BIOS support it).
