External hard drive of Segate is the best because it’s service center gives promt service. Samsung’s service center is unable to give proper service. Once sansung service center replaced my new hard disk with old one. I pretested and after a week they replaced it.

Bad-sector problem is always with samsung not at all with segate.

    um?

    you could give us a little more information, or some links to the particular drives. It could be the crappiest transcend drives on earth compared to the best seagates… we’ll never know. then we could steer you wrong, and that wouldn’t be cool…

    Recently, about two months ago I have purchased a Transcend 320GB external HDD after doing some market surveys. It comes with a 2 year warranty and two USB plug-ins for extra power. Moreover, it fits snugly into the shirt pocket and it doesn’t become hot even after using it for hours together. I think Transcend is the best. Size-wise Seagate and Western Digital are a little big compared to Transcend. Going by these specs you can try Transcend 500GB and I believe you wouldn’t regret. From Transcend: http://www.thinkcomputers.org/index.php?x=reviews&id=956

    From Seagate: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/external/freeagent/freeagent_desk

    It’s website boasts of the following features:

    " FreeAgent Desk™
    When you can’t afford to lose anything, you need a drive that can handle everything. This is the powerful yet simple safeguard.

    * Back up all your photos, music, videos, and documents
    * Easily protect data with automatic backup software
    * Keep important files secure with built-in encryption "

    Western Digital: http://reviews.cnet.com/external-hard-drives/western-digital-mybook-premium/4505-3190_7-31793438.html

    Review from Cnet–

    The good: The MyBook Premium edition is compact, employs an innovative design, has an external capacity gauge, comes with backup software, and is a speedy data reader.

    The bad: The MyBook Premium edition is slow to write data, over both USB 2.0 and FireWire 400.

    The bottom line: If write speed isn’t a top priority, the Western Digital MyBook is a good deal at around $300 for a 500GB drive. It’ll look good on your desk or bookshelf, too.

    Specifications: Hard drive size: 500 GB ; Interface type: IEEE 1394 (FireWire) / Hi-Speed USB ; Buffer size: 16 MB ;

    MY BOTTOM LINE?

    Take Transcend or Seagate, my pick (by looking at their specifications) would be TRANSCEND…
