My Seagate hard drive stopped working, it tells me to format it, i click format it, it starts to format and it wont Finnish it says it read only. i cant access the the device because it needs reformatted. please help. thank you.

Kindly try to detach the external hard drive, restart the system, again attach the external hard drive then check and try it once again.

Formatted means, it has already formatted and no files or folders over there. Now, you can install or save any files most probably.

Hello there, I just got an upgrade to my computer, and as a consequence it deleted all my data. Naturally I backed up my files to a seagate external hard drive, the 250 GB one. When i tried to recover my data, some of my files had little red circles in the corners, and when i tried to open them it says "the folder cannot be opened because you dont have permission to see its contents. Please any help would be appreciated, I have no idea what to do and I need those files

Yes, you can. firstly, do not write any new data to the hard drive in case the existed data were overwritten. then a data recovery program is needed. I recommend you use 001 File Recovery,
easy to use with omnipotent function. Once the hard drive was detected by PC, Use 001 File Recovery to scan it. and then you can see lost data appeared in the task list. click "recovery" to recover lost data.

Hello, I am just curious. I have a seagate ext hardr drive, just like this one http://goo.gl/8TkIG
It has 5 LEDS but only the round led and one of the lines are on (Maybe just the round one is on and the other one just receives a reflection from the round one). What do the lights do? What is their function?

According to the seagate website, it is an "Illuminated Capacity Gauge"
Which is just a fancy way of saying that it will show you roughly how full the drive is

iv recently bought an external seagate 500gb hard drive for my ps3 but i cant install it. iv tried plugging it in to my laptop (it uses windows vista if that makes a difference) and iv tried to format the hard drive to FAT 32 but that option doesn’t come up.
