My external Hard Disk and Pen Drive are continuously disconnecting and connecting?
My internet modem is connected by usb. I removed the usb and inserted the pen drive and tested but it continuously disconnecting. But there is no problem with internet.
I tested the external hard disk on a different computer, but it is working properly.
what might be the reason. Is it virus. I am using symantec anti virus. How can solve this problem.

I thing the problem is in USB port…

Well, you are going to want one with USB, so that you can use it on all computers. I suggest buying 500GB because the price difference from 320GB to that isn’t very large. Also, if you feel like spending a little more money, you can get an external hard drive that doesn’t require additional power, i.e. the only cord is the USB one. As long as you have an up to date firewall, antivirus and anti spyware p[rogrammes on your computer they will protect your USB drive too. Obviously scan anything you download before putting it on your USB drive. Hope this helps.

Can I use external hard disk in a P4 system instead of internal IDE disk?
It seems my system has obsolete however I would like to keep it as a stand by. While all other components are intact and working in a perfect manner. Hard disk has become unusable. IDE seems to be out of production and Can I use my Cpu with external hard disk alone? Is it possible? Will there be any problems?

I have copied/passed my files before into my external hard disk. Now, i need to format my laptop again, how do backup my files without deleting my old one ?
1) Copy all files you want to keep onto the external HDD
2) QUINTUPPLE!!! check to make sure you coppied everything onto your external HDD
3) Format computer, reinstall OSX/Windows/Linux
4) Copy files from external HDD back onto computer, keep everything on the external drive still just incase something goes wrong.
5) Do a little dance because you just did what computer stores like geek squad do for alot more money than you paid.
