Simple operations performed by a hard drive with no cover, so that you can see what it looks like inside.
This experiment was performed on an old hard drive, do not try this with newer expensive hard drives, it is a bit risky.

hi. i am using seagate 320 gb external hard disk. and i am having a problem. whenever i plugin my device into usb port, it gets detected after a long time and it asks me to format it before i use it…it contains very important data. so wat do i do???pls help me…….
This may have happened because you have not taken care of your hard drive and have pulled it out without safley removing it properly. And this has resulted it to want to format/fix itself because it is corrupted, to fix this you need to download a file extractor for your hard drive off the net.this has happend to me but is was a while Ago so I do not have the link. I hope this can help you

Do explain
If a 8 GB flash drive costs 25 $ that means its about 3$ for 1 GB
So lets say you want a 1 TB flash drive (I don’t think one exists though xD) that would be 3$ x 1000 (because 3$ for 1 GB, and theres about 1000 GB in a Tera byte, I think)
so thats about 3000$ for a 1 TB flash drive.
Yet a 1 TB external hard drive costs 100$.
I just don’t understand, shouldn’t the flash drive be a lot cheaper? or at least the external hard drive a lot more?
I’m not complaining, if anything happy, because I just bot a TB external hard drive for 100$, boy was I happy when I realized they didn’t cost much xD
way to go radio shack, you ripped me off!
More info: I bought an 8 GB flash drive for a few files that needed to be moved to dif computer, 25 $ right there >.<
a flash drive has solid state memory (no moving parts)
so it costs more to produce this
a external drive has moving parts inside and is a old design
overall a flash drive is much smaller and compatible with many computers
for this reason is why it is much more

Help!
I need to know what kind (a/c or d/c) and what voltage power supply I need for a Seagate Freeagent Desktop 320Gb. external USB hard drive. I have model ST303204FDA1E1-RK.
My 500G uses 12VDC @ 2A.
You could call 1-800-SEAGATE in the US or chat online from the web site.

I have a 200 GB Seagate external HD that is from the "pushbutton" series. The AC adapter is lost, and the adapter from my newer 500 GB Seagate FreeAgent drive seems not to work. The drive case doesn’t tell what AC adapter to use (e.g., voltage) and technical support is worthless. Is it different from the FreeAgent adapter? What kind of adapter will work if I go to Radioshack?
try a "universal" AC adapter with different settings. Mostly, the plug won’t fit if you have the wrong setting. However, there is always the possibility of ruining the HDD with the wrong adapter. Check the instruction manual for voltage, *and current* specifications. Try looking at the bottom of the case or near the plug again.
