Also, what is the speed and capacity of a CD ROM disk?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
It does all depend on what type of drive it is. USB vs Firewire vs eSATA. As for CDRoms, again, it depends on the drive. Most have it printed on the front of the drive but if you take the model and search the internet, it will probably tell you. Remember that with CD ROM drives, the speed they tell you is capable of is usually at the end of a read. So, while it may say 52x, it won’t actually hit 52 until the end. As for capacity, most CDs are 650MB or 700MB. DVDs are where you get into the GB range.
If you want to learn about hard drives, look up the major manufacturers: Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba, Samsung, Fujitsu
Also, if you want to look at speed comparisons, the drives which have higher RPMs have faster access times. You will see that listed on every hard drive sold. The higher the RPMs the more expensive they tend to be. But a 10k RPM drive will have super fast read/write times.
Then, you will want to look at connections – Internal: EIDE, SATA, SCSI
External – eSATA, USB 1.1, 2.0 Firewire 400, 800, Serial
Quickly, SATA connected drives tend to be the fastest, with eSATA external drives being the fastest of the external drives.
But, use the items I posted here to do a quick Wiki search or other search. There will be a lot of information on how fast each flavor is as well as the next generation.
