I have a Seagate External Hard Disc. Do I have to switch it off when I’m not using my PC.?

Is it ok to leave it running everyday?

Hi, I have one too! The thing’s whizzing around at 7200 Rpm. I suppose it has some kind of bearings, so though you don’t HAVE to, it will prolong the life of your disc to turn it off. The newer models have shock resist, but until recently, they were very shock sensitive, so if the cleaning lady, or your baby brother or even you bonk the thing while it’s spinning around at 7200 rpm it can damage it. You lose data- your disc messes up. Smarter to turn it off!

Would an 1 TB external hard drive be a good investment?

in 1 tb external hard drive | Comments (6)

Its a very large hard drive and depending on how much memory you use it could be a great investment. Its probably a must if you do any of the following

Store video
Store music
Store Images

other files are smaller and thus don’t need the amount of room this would provide. As a side note anything larger than 1.5 TB is rated far worse on New egg due to their poor performance.

Is it possible to change the internal hard drive on a seagate external hard drive for something bigger?

in seagate external hard drive | Comments (4)

If so how do you do it as i see no screws??

No, the Seagate External Drives are exactly that external drives. They are not meant to be customized after purchase. This is why you are not seeing any screws. On a desktop swapping out a hard drive is no big deal but Seagate did not make their external drives with the intent of anyone every changing it out. If you have a bigger hard drive you can use it in your desk top and still have the Seagate on the side.

Can I move my apps from my macbook to my external HD and still have access to them?

in external hd | Comments (1)

Im totally out of space on my 10 mo. old macbook. I want to move some of the lesser used apps. to my external hard drive. Can I do so and still be able to access them from the external HD when needed??

Please Help!

The best way to do this is uninstall the apps from your macbook’s drive, plug in your external drive, and then re-install them to the external drive. Make sure that you back up any personal data from the apps before uninstalling, though!

How to get my comp and my PS3 to see my external hdd?

in external hdd | Comments (2)

I have a WD external hdd. I changed the format from NTSF to fat32. Now my PS3 can see it but my computer can’t. What can I do so I can use it on my comp and my PS3? I am running on Windows XP 3.
Any help is appreciated!

Hmm that’s strange bc it shouldn’t do that, maybe you didn’t format it "all the way". So here’s a app that can help you + its free.

I am looking for a cheap external hard drive that is compatible with win 98 and connects to usb 1.1?

You are not going to find one because windows 98 is not supported by Mocrosoft any more in the USA. Get a computer with XP , or Vista Home Premium. that computer can’t be upgraded that far.

Why don’t external hard drives without power cords have a higher rotation speed?

in external hard drives | Comments (5)

Almost all external hard drives without power cords have a rotation speed of 5400 RPM or less. And the rare external hard drives without power cords that have a 7200 RPM have a ridiculously tiny amount of storage.

Also, why don’t hard drives without power cords go above 200GB? What exactly is the power constraint?

The reason they don;t spin faster is because the USB interface can only provide so much power. trying to spin it to 7200 RPM would draw too much juice!

The capacity is due to the same thing. There are silver discs inside a harddrive called platters. The more storage in a drive, the more and larger platters there are. 200GB is probably the optimum storage to wieght (of the platters) ratio they cold find that would still stay under the power limits of the USB interface.

Is External Hard Disk the same type that is also used as Internal Hard Disk in a computer?

in external hard disk | Comments (5)

i have 1 external hard disk stating 2.5" so is the internal hard disk for a computer of the same size can they be swopped

Well it depend:

1- The 2.5" external hard drive that you have is for laptop, the size for a hard drive computer is 3.5"

2- There are 2 type of hard drive, SATA and IDE and the connectors are different.

You will have to verify what type of equipment you have.

whats the best external hard drive to use for the ps3?

in best external hard drives | Comments (3)

I am looking to purchase an external hard drive for the ps3 any one know what the best one that is 500gigs and is fat32?
Any one have any links to any that are for sale I would appreciate it.

Almost every internal and external HDD support backward compatibility meaning you could go from NTFS and to FAT32 and down. Take a look at these drives.

LOL Fun Fact if you add 10 dollars you`ll get a TB drive that 500 + 500 GB. So in other words take your time when choosing.

And when you have the HDD here`s a free application that will help you format the drive called Partition Wizard Home Edition.
