    Hard drives always …
Hard drives always show up on the computer as smaller than what it says on the box. That’s because the computer measures kilobytes as 1024 bytes (2 to the 10th power or 2^10), MB as 1024*1024 bytes and GB as 1024^3 (cubed) bytes. Take 10^12 (1000 billion) and divide it by 1024^3 and it’ll come up to about 930 (as in 930 GB on the computer). It’s an advertisiing trick the manufacturers do.

    the drivers on a …
the drivers on a hdd don’t take up gigabytes, it’s just that manufacturers are forced to use terrabytes in the international metric systems, and binary data takes up space in the form of powers of 2. therefore, you have 1000 gb, but we all know a tb has 1024 gb and that’s what our pcs know too.

    They most likely …
They most likely have the PCI Express card slot then. They make the eSata port cards for PCI Express. The external drive will have to have a eSata port on it too. Check out the Ultra external eSata cases, the brushed metal one. I have it in a 2.5 brushed metal version. Very well made.

    I’ve been using …
I’ve been using external hard drives for several years. Up until 6 months ago I always used USB 2.0 ports. I switched to eSata and what a HUGE difference. When you are backing up large files like video files, etc. eSata is the way to go. Adding eSata ports to a Laptop is a snap. It’s simply plugging in either a PCMCIA card or PCI Express card. For Desktops I would suggest a Card Reader/USB/eSata combo for the front of your PC. eSata is the way to go.

    I’ve got 500gb and …
I’ve got 500gb and 1tb internal drives and two 500gb and one 1tb external drives. And I’m quickly running out of storage space. Oh and the 250gb external for my laptop. One hour of HD video uses up a lot of space.

Give it a couple of months and you’re going to find out that you need another one or two of these. they are massive storage but they, somehow, fill up FAST.
